Temperature gauge

I just got threw putting a water pump in this car what a job it runs good and I just have water in it now looking for leaks no leaks but when it was running the gauge inside of car didn't rise to the middle matter of fact it stayed about a quarter. Does any one know what is up?

try bleeding the coolant system and make sure coolant bottle is full. see pics
