Temperature warning light on

When the car gets warmed up the temperature light appears. I topped off the water /antifreeze. From cold and left breather cap off started car and ran to temperature
water bottle level raised above max and cap replaced when temperature reached fan kicks in. Heater warms up when revved to 3000
and cuts out (poss getting too hot).
