temperature gauge showing negative?

starting my car, the notice is showing _9 degrees. temperature outside is in the 35 degrees. once driving the temperature granulates to the outside temperature.. why is this happening?

Hi,

Often times there is a weak connection at a sensor or module. On this vehicle, there is an ambient air temperature sensor that is located behind the lower grill in the front. See pic 1.

Here is what I suggest. Remove the lower grill, 2 screws at top, and inspect the wiring. Make sure the connector is tight, clean, and free of any damage. If it checks good, chances are the sensor is bad.

Pic 2 below shows what I believe the replacement part to be. Just confirm it with the seller.
