Good day. I have a problem with my Tata 1.4 LSI Transmission. I opened up the box and everything seemed to be in place, no teeth worn or anything. The reverse and fifth gear shift perfectly fine. So, is there anything that I might be missing regarding those rods not shifting? This problem started after I had to remove the transmission to replace the top of the bell housing because some of the screw holes of the mounting had been stripped. So, there was no issue with the internals before I did the swop. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

This vehicle was not offered in the US, so I have little to no information on it. However, I will try my best to help.

If the transmission shifted properly prior, it must be the linkage itself. Is there anything that appears worn? If you remove the shift linkage, can you shift it manually at the shift levers?

Let me know.

Joe

Hi Joe, thanks for your response. Nothing seems to be worn or broken. No metal filings or anything of the sort. The two shafts/Rods connected to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th forks simply won't move up nor down even when I pull on them by hand.

Does this happen when the engine is running? if so, it sounds like the clutch is not disengaging completely. This is probably due to a bent clutch disc when the transmission was re-installed.

This guide might help:

Please run down this guide and report back.
