swapping a CVT transmission for an automatic

I recently posted a question regarding the repair of the transmission. I apologize, I listed the wrong model (cvt m75). I have a follow up question. The car dealer is suggesting swapping the transmission of my the Saturn ion 3 quad. The transmission in the car is a CVT #VT-20-E. The transmission he is suggesting is a five speed automatic #VT25-E. It was expressed that it "should bolt up with no problem." I have two questions. Would it bolt correctly? Would there be any electrical, sensor, mechanical, or other issues both immediate or down the road?

That is a CVT transmission out of a Saturn Vue, also very problematic and there has to be different gear ratios because of the tire and vehicle difference.They both are pretty much the same to repair I have repaired both. They should bolt up same engine. But as far as the axles working software in the computers etc. I would say there would be a difference. It is a bad situation you are in I would ask if they would buy the car back and get as far away from the car as you can. If it did not have the CVT transmission I would say stick with the car. Those transmissions were not any good from the day they were new.

Okay, the VT-20-E and the VT-25-E are basically the same CVT transmission.

The AF23-5 is a 5 speed automatic that was used in the Saturn's.
It is not a bolt in item. You need to change out a bunch of stuff to make it work.

AF23-5 trans and converter from an 03 or 04 Ion sedan (newer will not work)
AF23-5 Transmission computer and engine/trans wiring harness (remove at fuse junction)
AF23-5 Cooler lines
AF23-5 front, rear and drivers side mounts
AF23-5 shifter cable bracket

It is a swap that has been done many times. google VTi to AF23 transmission swap for more information.
