2004 Suzuki Verona Parking Shift Locked

Brakes problem
2004 Suzuki Verona 6 cyl Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
The Parking Shift Locked and I start the car and press on the brakes and the Parking Shift wont move to Drive Gear. Can you please tell me what is wrong with it?

first thing to check is teh brake light switch, if the brakes are not working replace it, if they are workign the switch could still be bad as part is used for brakes and some of it is used for the shift release for shifting the vehicle.
