1997 Suzuki Sidekick Four Wheel Drive Automatic 73000 miles

My vehicle seems very hard to steer. This model does not have power steering. What can I check or do to make the steering easier?

check the gear oil to ensure it is full. if it's OK then the steering gear may be faulty and needs replaced.
