1994 Suzuki Sidekick 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

we have a this car a while now and never had a problem, but tonight all a sudden when i wanted to start it there was just a hissing noise for a second and then nothing anymore, the engine didn't even really start. Now when i turn the ignition there is nothing happening anymore, not even the little warning lights on the dashboard are lit up.
is that just cause of an empty battery?
or has it some other explanation?

most likely a faulty charging system, yes. first inspect the battery terminals to ensure they are clean and tight properly. if OK, you should have the battery tested. most part stores will do this free of charge.
