Need to remove lower control arm. I have coil over springs so do I need to compress them in order to remove lower control arm?

Welcome to 2CarPros. If this is the stock GM suspension it isn't a true coil over system. The shock mounts in the middle but the spring base is in the lower control arm. As such you need to compress or restrain the spring before you remove the lower arm. Be very careful as the springs have a lot of force and can do serious damage if they fly out.
