Suspected transmission problem?

Recently bought a used car. I have an automatic transmission. I've had two episodes where RPMs rise and I temporarily get little power when pressing on the gas. Research on Google points to possible transmission problems. What things should I look at to narrow down the problem?

The first thing I would do is run the codes and check the transmission fluid, here are guides that will help:

Transaxle fluid ATF SP-IV or equivalent 7.1L (1.93 U.S gal., 7.71 U.S.qt., 6.42 Imp.qt.)

If the fluid smells burnt, I would change it out. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem so we can see what's going on.
