It runs great highway speed until I step on the gas to pass and the engine surges up and down. I replaced the fuel filter to start. Not the problem.

Hello,

An engine can surge due to a number of reasons.
It could be due to a faulty mass air flow sensor, fuel pressure issue, vacuum leak etc.
The MAF sensor could be dirty and send an incorrect signal to the ECU, which can make the engine surge.
Cleaning out the MAF could help.

Many times, the check engine light will get triggered. Is your check engine light illuminated? If so scanning and retrieving the code(s) can help with the diagnostics.

Take a look at this helpful guide on engine surges:

Let me know what you find or if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Thanks Sean. No, I put my reader on, and I have no codes. I’ll start by cleaning the MAF. Thanks again.
