Sunroof stuck closed

Sunroof tries to open on driver's side about one inch rise then sticks closed the rest of the way, gears grind, but still closes and seals. I'm leaving it closed, hopefully saving the gears, pending further analysis.

I have included in the diagrams down below the factory diagnostic troubleshooting guide for the sunroof's symptom for your vehicle. It is quite extensive, but please follow the directions, they are in a flow chart style, but you will be led to the problem so you can get it fixed. Please go through this guide and get back to us with what you are able to find out.
