Just so we cover the basics. Were you able to jump start the vehicle?
One of the reason an engine can stall like this if it has a faulty crankshaft position sensor.
Over time with heat and vibration the crank sensor can loose its internal calibration and can send faulty signal to the ECM, which in return can shut down the engine.

Is your check engine light illuminated? Sometimes with issues like this the engine light gets triggered.
