2001 Subaru Outback Tapping noise in engine

When we start our outback there is a tapping noise in the engine, the noise gets quieter after about 2 minutes depending on the temperature. What is it and how much to repair

Maybe lifters ticking especialy in real cold air. Might try thiner weight oil till spring.
