2000 Subaru Outback shifting

My car will start and run, but I cannot shift out of park. Appreciate any advice. Thank You.

Thank you for the donation.

The shift interlock system is preventing the shift lever from being shifted out of park. Check if the brake lights are working. If brake lights are not working, the gear shift interlock solenoid would not work to allow the shift lever to be moved. Check for blown stop light fuse or faulty brake switch on top of brake pedal support.

If brake lighst are working, check gear shift interlock solenoid operations under gear shift console when brake pedal is depressed with ignition switch turned to ON.
