Engine Performance problem
1998 Subaru Outback 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

a readout shows a bad knock sensor. I have acquired one, but it appears very difficult to get to to replace. It looks like you have to pull the intake manifold to get to it. Is this correct? Thanks

if you have the 3.0L engine then yes the intake manifold must be removed. for the other engines (2.5L etc..) then you can remove the air cleaner case, intercooler (on DOHC engine) and then reach the sensor .
