93 Subaru Legacy - 'clicking - nothing - glycol everywhere

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, so please forgive me if this has been answered before.

About a month ago I noticed (in my 93 legacy AWD turbo) a sort of 'clicking' sound comming from the engine bay, that was proportionate to the speed of my engine (when I revved faster, so did the clicking). I didn't take much notice of it at the time, because after a couple minutes it would go away, and I'd be alright.

However I believe it's linked to this morning's mis-hap. About a block from my appartment I noticed the check engine light (dumbest spot for a check engine light ever, hiding right behind the steering wheel) and some smoke/sweet smell. Got it to the appartment parked, opened the hood, and a plume of smoke rises. Definately coolant (no question, green, slimey, sweet smelling) all over my engine bay.

The smoke seems to be localized comming from the back drivers side of the motor (right where the coolant filler is), however not sure if that's the actual location of the problem.

I've been told that it could be radhose - head gastket - or a water pump.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Brendon

Well I did find the leak - the coolant tank's little nipple deal for the hose to clap onto broke off.

Now the question remains, does anybody know about that clicking sound i've been getting?

Thanks

Clicking gone.

Well everyone,

Just to update incase anybody else was wondering, the strange clicking sound is now gone.

After having my coolant tank replaced, I did an oilchange to find that the oil was WAY overdue - the wateriest (runny) oil i've EVER seen. I believe somebody on a previous board mentioned something about sticky lifters, and to change the oil. Well that seems to have done the trick, at least for now.

However something still bothers me about this car. It runs SO bloody HOT! My Temp gauge on the dash is right dead in the middle, but holy flying monkies does it ever run hot.

Is this a normal, Subaru, horizontal 4 motor kind of problem?
