My $200 find, known as "the Beastlyvan," has only one major issue that bothers me.
The engine stalls when decelerating from highway speeds, such as when preparing to make a turn or approaching a stoplight.
It idles fine (perhaps even a little fast, I'm not sure - in a moment, I'll tell you why I believe so) and does not stall under any other circumstance. Whatever the issue is, I believe it may be contributing to poor gas mileage as well.
This is a 1990 Grand Voyager LE with a 3.3 liter V6 and over 170k miles. It came with the stalling problem. Shortly after I purchased it, I had the fluids changed and my oil and air filters replaced. No obvious problems (like debris in the fluids) were noted.
--Important Note-----------------------------
Just after participating in this discussion, I remembered that this van (the 3.3 liter) is fuel injected and uses a distributorless ignition system. While the advice already given would be helpful with normally aspirated models, it doesn't work for this van. Any ideas?
----------------------------------------------
As for the idling, last week my girlfriend's Subaru broke down (fuel pump). It was about 2am, so I bought a tow strap and towed it to the shop with my van (an adventure it was, yes). The van pulled her car just fine at idle, that is why I think it might be idling a little fast.

Any help you can offer to make the Beastlyvan a little less beastly would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Gary
