What causes oil to get into the carborator through the hose that runs between the aircleaner and the head? Could it be too much oil in the engine?

I ran the engine without the hose on and the oil stopped coming out after a few minutes. Now the dip stick reads normal.

I cleaned the hoses and aircleaner but and the engine runs now but not as well as befor.
