I have an 87 Subaru GL. the EGR light is on, on the dash and the engine runs a rough. I understand the EGR light is triggered by the odometer, so how do I turn it off? And second, the engine runs a little rough. I have located the EGR valve (I think). Should I replace it or is it something else? When I say the engine runs a little rough, I mean it accelerates OK. Primarily when I am starting in 1st or shifting to 2nd gear is when I notice it the most. I appreciate the help.

As far as the rough running, start basic and make sure it is tuned up with GOOD parts (OEM preferred)
The EGR light- pull down left cover under instrument panel- Pull down connectors behind fuse panel ( blue - green) Unplug connector fron Blue and plug into Green, or the other way around, it depends on how many times it has been reset
