2002 Subaru Legacy over heats

Car temp. gauge goes up and settles back down.
Fans seem to run constantly. When checking over with hood open the gauge runs in the middle, as soon as the hood is closed the temp starts a risin'.

Hi there,

Check that the radiator is not part blocked in the core with a heap of leaf litter, this sis sounding like an air flow problem.
