This is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string? Like anything if you do the maintenance and don't abuse it, it will last for many many years, Subaru are a fine automobile and the workman ship is usually first class, You don't have to use genuine parts, but good quality OME is advisable, do the regular maintenance and it should not be a worry at all. But with that said, it is a machine, and things can go wrong, so keep on top of the little things and the car should not cause you an concern for some time.
