2000 Subaru Legacy How to fing my engine ID?

I replaced my engine last week. It's about 140,000 miles. And the new one is about 850,000 miles. My question is : how can I identify the engine of Subaru? Becasue the dealer also had 170,000 miles engine that can still work, I am really afraid they had used it to replace my new engine. I cannot find any difference from these two. Is there any identification number on the engine that can help me to find the right one? Where can I find it if they exist? Thanks!

Hi yingli2288, Thank you for the donation. There are nothing to differentiate between engines and the main thing to look for would be the engine identification number. The higher the number value, the newer the engine. Apart from that, you would have to take the dealer's word for it. If the job was done at the dealer, you can rest assured that they have given you what they promised and the most important thing is that they are providing you with a warranty for the engine. It is an offence to provide false information so I don't believe the dealer is into that. There must be some typing error as you indicated the new engine to be 850 k miles. Yes, some engines can run forever depending on the maintenance and upkeep so it is not surprising to have a good running engine at 200 k miles.

Oh, yeah! The mileage of the new engine is 85,000miles. And I bought it from ebay that takes me $1000, but the dealer asked me $ 1,400( including change the gaskets) to install it . Is this a reasonable price? By the way, I don't know the mechanic, but are the broken gaskets a part of the engine? Because the seller on ebay give me 90 days warranty, may I ask they to reimburse me?

The engine would come without some items and these are used from your old engine.

Transferring these parts would involve replacement of the gaskets and you are reponsible for these so you cannot ask for reimbursement.
