When the headlight goes out, does the whole unit need to be replaced or can you just replace a bulb?

you can just replace the bulb. You do have to take the lens housing out. there is a bolt on top under the hood that needs to be taken out and then the housing can be wiggled out. Once the bulb is replaced then install in reverse order.
