My check engine light went on last week, I had the
code read and it implied a fuel vapor leak somewhere.
I had the code reset but light went back on. I am
going out of state in five days. Is this safe to drive?
I am thinking about going to a Subaru dealer for a closer
check. My local mechanic doesn't think it is too serious.
One event has me wondering if it triggered the engine light. I had spill gas on top of the gas cap area last week,
the gas nozzle was not working properly at the time at the gas station. Well, about 15 minutes later that engine light came on. Seems odd right after the gas spill. Does this area need to dry out for
awhile? Any info appreciated. I am just concern as I
got to go out of state, about 450 miles one way in 5 days from now.

CHances are there is a leak in the EVAP system. It could be as simple as a fuel cap, or a leak anywhere else in the system. What I recommend is having the system fogged. They will see where the leak is and make it easier to find.
