I have a ticking sound on the left side (when sitting in the car) of the engine and when cold starting the car it will at idol at about 2,000 rpms and then go down after about 5 to 6 minutes of running. The question is how much would it cost to repair this problem at a mechanic. (price range). thanks hope to hear back soon.....

Hi:
The high idle can be a vacuum leak or a TPS (throttle position sensor). Around 200.

As far as the tick, it's hard to estimate because I don't know what is actually causing the problem. If it is just adjusting the valves, 100. If it requires lifters, pushrods, rockers... you could be over 600.
