1994 Subaru Legacy tranny problems?

it runs ruff at idle and when your driving sometimes it it fells like its going to die if you dont keep the rpms high, bad smell comeing for the engine sometimes, also cars shakes and make weird scraping noise sometimes too. check engine light is on but no scan tool to test that yet. thanks for your help!

You really need to get the codes from light so we can better assist you. These symptoms you describe can be a number of things, without guidance of a code and without being there in person, it is nearly impossible to pinpoint the culprit for you. You can go to a local auto part store such as AutoZone, O'Reilly Auto Parts, and Advance Auto Zone to have the diagnostic codes scanned for free.
