At 3500 revs I hear a squeeling like a slipping belt --- this stops when I go above or below 3500 revs.
From driving position it sounds like it is comming from the engine compartment, however, when my friend listened with the hood up and looking at the engine, he could not hear it --- when he came to just outside the driners door he could hear it.
The thought was that it could be a vibrating heat sheild on the exhaust manifold --- I had it removed which helped a little, yet I am still getting some squeeling at 3500 revs.

Spray a little WD40 on the belts and see if the sound temporarly goes away.
