I've got a wee bit of a problem with oil consumption. Every time I take my car in for an oil change (I go in every 3k miles on the dot), the oil is squeaky clean but I'm always about 3 quarts low. I don't notice any smoke behind me (though I'm pretty sure it's burning and not leaking), and I asked the guy at the oil change place to check for external leaks and he couldn't find any. Otherwise, it's in near-perfect mechanical condition, and I want to keep this car running as well as I can for as long as I can. Are their any products I can add to my oil to slow consumption? Maybe switch to synthetic or high-mileage oil?

Hi there,

not sure where you are, but see if you can get Penrite HPR40 or 50, what weight oil are you using?

Hi there,

I would by trying 20W-30 this may help ease the oil consumption a little, as long as it meets the temp specs for your location.
