The car was parked for 16 months and we replaced the fuel pump, since the old gas just sitting had ruined the seals on the existing. We also replaced the battery. On trying to start, the car pops and then after emitting several puffs of white smoke, it dies. If, after receivibg 2 or 3 puffs of white smoke, the accelerator pedal is pumped 5 or ten times, it will finally start.
Idle is poor as is accelerration. If you attempt to wait for engine to come up to normal running temp, it will run almost normally. HELP!

Ok the old fuel is the problem it sat to long. Fuel is only good for about 6 months untreated and about a year if stabil was used. So now what I would recomend it replace the fuel filter and put a can of seafoam in the gas tank with at least 8 gallons of fuel in tank and see if you can clean the fuel system out. The injectors have varneshed and so on. Now would also like to know if the air filter is clean and if you have used any mass air flow cleaner to clean the mass air flow meter? Lets start here and see where it goes let me know how it works and we will go from there.
