purchased car new in 2008. ECM was faulty and it was repaired in 2008, but not replaced. Engine light stayed on continuously.
At 12,000 mi. from last oil change, the engine knocked briefly and seized, and then the oil light went on.
$6k estimate for new short block and related repairs.
I know I should be driving a tricycle, but is there any hope of help from Subaru as the oil light never went on.
I assume that was controlled by the ECM which was faulty.

I highly doubt they will give you anything on this one. You went 12k miles after the last oil change? was there any oil in it when it seized? It may have been a parts failure that caused a fast loss of oil pressure that seized it. You could try to be the squeeky wheel at Subaru, they may work with you on it, but I dont really think so.
