I have just had my axle boots replaced because I had a "burnt" smell coming from my car. My mechanic showed me how the oil was leaking from the axle boot onto my exhaust pipe.

My question is this: What would cause my axle boots to need to be replaced?

Thank You.

Hi there,

This is just normal wear and tear, the axle moves up ands down with suspension movement, this combined with the rotation of the shaft does act on the rubber and with time it will start to crack and leak, there is nothing out of the ordinary happening here.
