Hey everybody, I've been having issues with it starting roll slow if starting at all over the last few days I assumed because I live in Minnesota, and it's been so cold and it's an older battery that it was a battery issue. So, I went and bought a new battery after putting the battery in, my car will not start nothing, I get no clicks no nothing so I'm assuming it's the pass lock. I have tried everything I have seen online to reset the pass lock the 10 minute the 30 minute nothing works I've even tore the entire column off and attempted to take the wiring out of the cylinder for the ignition like I've seen in a few videos, but I don't have resistors or anything like that in the middle of nowhere where I'm stuck right now because this vehicle shut down on me. Can anybody please help?

The early failure signs look like the starter itself is failing. If the vehicle is cranking slowly then the first thing, we recommend is having the battery tested. Since you replaced it, the second would be to have the starter checked. If the starter is failing, it will sometimes crank over slow mimicking a bad battery.

The first thing I recommend before you do anything else is to make sure everything is connected back to the steering column. After rechecking your connections at the starter. The most important wire besides the battery cable attached is the trigger wire. If it is secured, remove it and check for battery voltage at that wire while someone turns the key to the start position.

Here is a link on starter checking:

Make sure fuses are good and swap relays if you need to. Let us know what the results are from these tests or if you need better instructions.

Yeah well, it's definitely not the starter. I put a new battery in today after that nothing starts nothing works it's definitely the pass-lock system it has nothing to do with the starter. I have a brand-new starter I just put in along with an alternator that's why my question asked how I get to bypass that system? Thanks for the basic troubleshooting though that I've already done. Everything's back in the steering column I'm not worried about that I've torn a vehicle apart before but I don't know anything about these security systems that's what the issue is the key doesn't have a chip in it. I've tried the turning the key to the on position and leaving it there for 10 minutes and then coming back the security light never turns off. I've tried resetting it with the fob I've tried to resetting it by locking the door with it open and then shutting the door and then opening it while it's locked so that it sets the alarm off and that doesn't do anything. I want to just cut the wiring somebody tell me how to do that.

Okay, so just to clarify, is the security light on or flashing? If it is then I do this with the key and I would recommend having a battery maintainer on.

Insert key and turn on (do not start!) Wait 10 minutes (security light will turn off) Turn key off. Turn key back to on (do not start) Wait another 10 minutes until security light turns off again. Turn key off. Turn key back to on for 3rd time. Wait another 10 minutes, until security light turns off. Turn key off. Try to start after.

Also do you have more than one key? If you do, try another key with those steps. You could have a bad key.

Hey, I'm not trying to upset you here, but I already said I did all of this none of that works. The security light blinks and blinks and blinks I left it on for 10 minutes about 12 actually and it never turned off so then I left it for over an hour still didn't turn off none of that stuff works none of the videos I watched on how to hook the yellow wire to the orange and black wire with resistor that didn't work. I just want to cut the stupid thing out I don't need the alarm system. It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere forty miles from the nearest town right now for over 9 hours because of a stupid thing GMC put in the vehicle. There's got to be a way I can yank it out and not have to worry about it.

Okay, do you have another key you can try? You could have a bad key.

What do you mean I could have a bad key? A 2002 Yukon does not have a chipped key they didn't put a chipped key in them until 2006. It states right in the owner's manual that this is something that happens when you do any electrical work it makes the vehicle think that it's being stolen so you have to do the padlock reset, which I've done multiple times like I said, and it does not work. Can you just tell me I can cut the wires out or something? I mean there's got to be a simple explanation to fix this I shouldn't have to call it dealership on a 20-year-old vehicle this is a bunch of BS.

I am sorry you are in the situation you are in, but without knowing if you are getting the 12 volts at the purple wire for the starter there is not much more I can have you do.

It's not the starter! GMC roadside assistance is here and it's the passive lock they are disabling it now. Thanks

Hi,

I was wondering if you got this issue resolve. It sounds like the VTD is engaged. If there is an issue with the BCM getting power, it can cause this. The Body Control Module (BCM) contains the theft-deterrent system logic. Since you are unable to have the light turned off, we need to confirm that a fuse didn't fail when the battery was replaced.

Let me know if I can help.

Joe
