After doing some repairs on my truck I got in it and started it but when I went to shift from park to reverse the shifter wouldn't move. Now this has happened before and all I had to do was press the release with a screwdriver but this time that didn't work. So, I pulled off the knob and console top and pushed the button and it will then move gears. Do I need to replace the entire shifter assembly or just that buttons harness if it's got one? If you do have any suggestions, can you give step by step instructions for them, please and thank you.

Hi,

When you press the brakes, do you hear the shift interlock actuator release or click? If not, we need to see if it is getting power.

I'm not sure what was being done to the vehicle prior to this happening, so bear with me.

First, do you hear the actuator release when the brake pedal is pushed? If you don't, are the brake lamps working? I ask because the actuator is powered via the brake lamp switch.

I attached the diagnostics below for testing the circuit. Take a look at them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

I have checked the brake lights and yes, they work as for the clicking, I never have heard it make any type of sound when I press the brake and its push button starts so I press it every time I start it. It's done this twice before today the 1st time I had drove about 5 miles round trip and pulled up almost to my driveway and put it in park so my kid could pull it in the driveway and as she tried to shift out of park it wouldn't move so I got in and jiggled the shifter a bit and it finally went to drive and I parked it the 2nd time was about 3months later and I got in to leave and same thing so I googled it and took it apart as described but the top part of the shifter pulled right off the stick and it was missing the clip at the bottom the video said holds it onto the stick so I continued taking the console top off and found and pushed the white button in that they say u can put a screw driver into though release button on top to release it from park and it does as long as its pushed in but once its back together it doesn't even when doing the screw driver idea so this is why I ask if just replacing the entire assembly would fix the issue tomorrow in the daylight I will upload a video showing you what it does and maybe we can figure it out.

Hi,

If you look at pic 1 below, I highlighted the connector to the release actuator. With the key on, press the brake pedal and confirm there is power to it.

If there isn't, check the shift lock relay in the under-hood fuse box. See pic 2.

If there is another relay with the same part number, switch them to see if that allows it to work. If there isn't, here is a link that explains how to test a relay:

Let me know what you find.

Joe

Hi,

As far as a part number, neither of my manuals provides that information. Just get one for the year, make, and model vehicle you have. Make sure they know it has a CVT transmission, CVT RE0F09B.

Let me know how things turn out for you.
