Stops moving in reverse and a loud grinding noise happens?

This is an intermittent problem. Will be backing up and all of a sudden there is a very loud somewhat high pitch grinding noise. The vehicle will stop. When I shift to Neutral or Park, the noise stops, and the vehicle will then operate normally. Techs at my shop could not get it to happen, in order to investigate. Can't make it happen either. It will just occur at random. Looking to see if there is anything I can look at or have checked out.

Is the grinding noise coming from the rear of the truck? If so, I would remove the rear cover to inspect the gears, you may be able to try to turn the driveshaft to look for play which can tell you the rear differential is having issues. Look for metal in the gear oil. Check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos in your response of any problems so we can see what to help you with.
