New (used) car, new issues.

The shift lock button on my shifter often sticks when I try to shift out of park. I start the car, release the emergency brake and press down the brake pedal (the brake lights glow) but the shift lock button will not immediately release. Sometimes it only does it once or twice. Sometimes it take fifteen to twenty tries.

Ideas?

Thanks, as always.

Hello,

It sounds like the shift lock switch has gone bad here are diagrams and instructions to help you replace it. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Cheers, Ken

Ken,

I am not clear which part in the diagrams needs replacing. Is it the shift lock solenoid? Is there any way to verify that this is the problem or is it cheaper to simply replace it and see?

I am having trouble finding the part online. Is there a part number for it?

Yes, it was a little vague on the shift lock I would take it apart to see how it works then go from there.
