After starting the car the steering wheel started to shake to the left and could not be turned it became very stiff. I notice the EPS light came on as well. I never encounter this before, so I call a friend who has a similar car he said that if the car battery is about to go flat the car can react like this. I had a look at the battery indicator I notice it requires charging...

I would start by having the battery load tested and determine if it is faulty first. Modern vehicles are very touchy when it comes to voltage problems. If that is the original battery it could easily be bad. Once you have a known good battery then you can see what it does from there.

Are you talking about the little eye glass on top of the battery? If so, this is not a valid "test" of the battery because this is only to be used when looking at the battery on the shelf before you buy it. It was a way the battery companies where trying to cut down on warranty returns wen someone buys a battery and puts into a car that has an issue with batteries drains. Then they return the battery under warranty and say it was drained when they bought it. It happens a lot so it costs the battery companies a lot of money.

Once a battery is installed in a car, this eye is no longer reliable. This means we need to get the battery tested and then retest the steering.

However, if this is still an issue then we need to scan for codes.

Let me know what you find with this and we can go from there.

Just had a look through the eye glass at the particular time (good info to note about this eye glass). Will do a battery load test or install a new battery and see what it does.
