We took the car in because it made a clicking noise when you turned right or left. The mechanic said we needed a new steering rack. We paid $1,100.00 for rack. Got car back and now the power steering was out. Took it back, they took a couple of days saying they weren’t sure but then said the rack was faulty and said they put a new rack in. Then they called and said the steering pump valve was broken and we needed to pay $660.00 for that. My question is, wouldn’t they have seen the broken valve in pump when they were putting on rack? Or when they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with power steering and said they had to put in another rack?

Good evening.

Sounds fishy.

The rack is a straight replacement. When they are done, they had to bleed it and maybe flush it but they did not touch the pump until the rack was replaced.

Something may have gone wrong with the bleeding but I cannot tell from here and you would have to prove it to blame them.

Here is a list of pumps with pricing.

The labor is 2.4 hours which should around 225.

They are killing you with that price.
