When I turn it wants to turn back on me like it has a mind of its own which affects my turning corners. Can you please help? Or diagnose the issue?

I think we need a little more info on this to figure out what the issue is. From what I understand when you turn the wheel the vehicle makes the turn but the steering steering wheel feels like it is pushing back on you? Do you mean it is hard to turn or you actually feel pressure in the opposite direction?

The steering will naturally try to turn back to center but I am not sure this is what you are experiencing.

Is it possible to get a video of the issue so we can possibly see what it happening? Also, does this do it in both directions or is it just one?

Let start with this and possibly a video and see if we can figure this out. Thanks

The car steering wheel pushes to the opposite direction when I'm turning. I had new bushings, tie rods, upper/lower control arms done. Replaced a month ago. Didn't have that problem before, had a wheel alignment, but steering still doing the same, like it want to turn back the opposite direction. Other than that, the car drives excellent.

Okay. This sounds like you possibly have low or no steering assist. Meaning the power steering is not functioning properly so when you turn the wheel, the friction of the tires on the road actually want to turn the wheels back to straight.

Can you try to get a video of you turning the wheel in a corner? Just take a slow turn in a parking lot and turn the wheel while moving slowly and then release the wheel. Seeing this should be able to confirm what I am thinking.

Sending video. When I turn the wheel, it kicks back the opposite way. Whether I'm driving fast or slow or even when I'm parking. Thank you for getting back to me.

Okay, that helps with getting me on the same page as you. Just to confirm you have owned this vehicle for a little while and have felt this get worse or did this happen all of a sudden?

I suspect the power steering pump is the issue or the steering gear. Depending to the answers above we can possibly start with checking the pressure in the system. However, let's take it one step at a time because I don't want to go off in the wrong direction. Thanks

Kasekenny1, thanks for helping narrow this issue, I didn't have this problem until mechanic install new bushings tie rod sway bar and upper and lower control arms. I got a wheel alignment but about a week after that is when I noticed steering problem. I do believe when they install the front end, they didn't do a great job in tightening all the gears. Take it to another mechanic for a second opinion. Again thank you so much for taking the time.

Okay. You kind of mentioned that info before but that clears it up. So what is happening is that steering systems return to center normally but if the suspension components specifically the ball joints that are part of the control arms are over tightened or not installed quite right it will cause binding and hard steering which can feel like it is fighting you when you turn the wheel.

I suspected these components but with that clarity of this work just being performed, I am confident like you are, that this is what is causing your issue.

A second opinion is probably the best idea at this point.

Let us know what they find because that info may help others that have this issue. Thanks

That’s great. I suspect when they put the control arms in and did the alignment they forgot to tighten the adjuster enough and it moved causing the issue which is why it took a week.

Either way you should be good to go now. Thanks for coming back and updating us. Please come back to 2CarPros. Thanks.
