Steering column the engine dies?

Need steps on getting the steering column taking apart. When i push or pull on steering wheel the engine dies.

Before you take the steering column apart I would check the ground from the battery to the engine block and then the ground from the battery to the truck chassis. They both must be connected and in good shape.
