Had a new steering rack fitted last week, this morning I pulled out of my parking space and the steering arm snapped. I towed it to the local Vauxhall dealer that did the original work, but told me it wasn't covered due to the only way a steering arm can snap was due to an impact of some sort (collision etc, ) I have not impacted anything, and there is no damage to the car.

Can a steering arm snap without an impact occurring?

Hello, I'm Danny.

I suppose the only way a steering arm could snap without binding could only be two reasons. If the unit was defective or installed incorrectly could cause a failure. Other than that if something was causing binding during turning radius could also cause it to snap like that. Hopefully you had a warranty when the work was performed. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
