Engine is hard to start and then acts like it is flooding out (cannot keep it running). no gas smell. (Possible crankshaft sensor?)

It could be related to the sensor, but also there are other things which could be causing it. Have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes? This vehicle has an OBD 1 system. All you need to retrieve codes is a short jumper wire or even a paper clip.
