Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

The pressure seems good as long as that is the regulated pressure. As far as the problem, does the engine start right back up or do you have to wait? What I suggest is to check for trouble codes. This is an OBD1 system and you can check for codes without a scanner.

Follow the directions in this link and let me know what you find.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/retrieve-trouble-codes-for-chrysler-dodge-plymouth-odb1-1995-and-earlier-car-mini-van-and-light-trucks

Again, let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe

Hi Scott. Some did and others did not. Since it is a 1993, there is good chance it does not. Is there a security light coming on or flashing? Is this a Grand Cherokee or the original one?

By the way, let me know if you checked for codes and what they are if you found them.

Joe

I have checked the flash codes and it only gives me a code 12 because I have disconnected the battery so many times. And yes it is a grand Cherokee Laredo. Also there is no security light when I turn the key to run.

The vehicle will start up and run for about three seconds then shuts off will start right back up and then shuts off. I have 35 psi at fuel rail port. I have replaced ASD relay checked all fuse all are good. Fuel pump was replaced about three weeks ago. Also I do not have a key that will unlock the doors. Ing cylinder was replaced before I got the vehicle. Can you help me resolve this problem?

Good afternoon.

The first issue you have is the fuel pressure. It is too low. The spec is 49 lbs, not 35. That is the reason it is not running.

If it is three weeks old, it would be a warranty repair. Make sure they use a good brand fuel pump.

Did a shop perform the repair?

What brand pump did they use?

Roy

Engine at idle speed, 338 kPa ± 14 kPa (49.0 psi ± 2 psi).

I am sorry my Jeep is a 1993 not 1996. Is the fuel pressure still the same? The old owner installed the pump so I am not sure of anything about the pump.

There is no markings on the only key that I have. I am going to replace fuel filter and check PSI again. What is the best way to check if I am losing spark or if fuel PSI is not enough?

If your pressure is not at spec, then the fuel pump is bad.

Check for spark at the coil while cranking.

I have good spark coming out of the coil when I use my spark tester. Also, now I have replaced the fuel filter and unhooked the vacuum to the regulator at cranking I have 40 psi. On fuel. I checked spark at the spark plug it seems to be losing spark when engine shuts off then spark comes back and it runs again then shuts off. If I hold the key in the run position I can watch the spark come and go every time it shuts off. Could it be the pick-up plate in the distributor?

A very common issue is the crank sensor. It is located on the bell housing upper left side.

When this fails there will be no spark.

You can get it at any parts store.

Did you use a voltmeter and check the voltage to the ignition coil? You need battery voltage to the coil.
