Starts but then shuts off

Hi, I am helping a friend of mine on his SUV listed above LT. The problem is it starts and stays on for a couple of seconds then shuts off. He also mentioned that before this happened he noticed when going up a freeway or highway hill he would almost floor the gas pedal and notice it would sort of jerk real quick ounce and it takes its time to pick up speed. It wouldn't happen all the time only once in a while. Oh yeah we just changed the fuel filter and changed spark plugs. What could it be?

You didn't mention if the check engine light was coming on when he was experiencing the low power issue. Even if the light wasn't coming on I would recommend checking the computer for any trouble codes. Here is a link to out tutorial on how to do that:

If you could check for any codes that would be a huge help in diagnosing the problem, even if it doesn't have any codes that also helps us narrow down the problem.
