Vehicle will not start, no noise, but all ignition lights start and radio works. Took battery out to charge as would not start.

First I wish we got these in the US but VW vans do not for some reason so they dropped the US market for them. (that and the chicken tax that adds 25% to the import price)

If all the interior items come on but you hear nothing from the starter, I would start by charging the battery, then check the battery cables for both positive and negative that attach to the starter. Next use a remote start switch (basically a cheap push button and some wires) to connect the battery terminal on the starter and the start terminal on the solenoid. Hit the switch, does the starter turn? If yes, the starter is okay. If you hit the switch and hear nothing then the starter is likely bad.
So let's assume the starter worked during that test. The next item to look at would be the starter relay. It uses the signal fro the ignition switch to act like the remote start switch. Do you hear/feel it working? If not, swap it with another of the same type and try again.
So the relay still is not working. You will want to check the clutch interlock switch for operation, it usually is under the dash mounted at the top of the pedal arm. If it fails the signal does not reach the relay = no start.
If it tests out good, you will need to check the signal from the ignition switch to the clutch interlock.

Without a wiring diagram I do not know if VW used a switched power or ground for the signal feed (I would guess ground but?) For much of the testing a simple test light would work, you just connect the lead side to positive or negative as required.
