Sometimes the car would not start in park or neutral and sometimes it would. I replaced the transmission range switch but that did not solve the problem. Any ideas what the problem might be?

It sounds like the starter is going out, but to be sure lets use a test light at the starter when it will not crank over to see if the trigger (small) wire use this guide to help.
