will not start in park unless lever is put in park roughly?

sometimes will not start in park unless lever is put in park roughly, and never starts in neutral.

Hi,

The neutral safety switch is actuated from inside the transmission. With that in mind, I suspect the shift cable may be somewhat out of adjustment. At least this is where I would recommend starting.

If you look below, I attached the directions for adjustment. Keep in mind, there are nylon bushings that can go bad as well, so make sure to inspect all connections.

Also, inspect the condition of the connector to the switch. Pic 2 below shows the location.
