During starting my engine will begin to turnover but something is causing it to disengage. The alternator will begin turning he belt but always stops and restarts. I need help.

Try to crank the starter again except this time with the headlights on, if while cranking the starter and engine over if when the starter stops, and the headlights go out completely, then you have a loose electrical connection and most likely either end of either the positive or negative battery cable.
If though the headlights just go dim when the starter stops, then you may have a bad spot on the starter.
By the way, the alternator does not turn the belt, the belt actually turns the alternator.
