Car will not start when the transmission is in park, first and sometimes neutral?

Car won’t start in park 1st gear, most times it does start in neutral, problem Just started yesterday. So, these are the most details I got.

Does the vehicle have a manual or automatic transmission? I ask because the heading says manual, but you indicated it won't start in park.
