There is bolt in the way of taking the starter out. Not sure what it goes to, and I don’t want to take that bolt out if I don’t need to. What is in the way of taking this starter out?

Good morning,

Can you upload a picture of the bolt?

It could be the rear support for the starter.

I attached a picture for you. Can you tell me the location of the bolt?

A clashing or grinding condition, may exist, due to improper engagement of the starter to flex-plate on some vehicles equipped with 5.0L/V8-305 & 5.7L/V8-350 engines with automatic transmission. To correct this condition, replace the starter drive assembly, with new drive assembly, part No. 10456422, which utilizes a stiffer jump spring allowing for proper engagement. During starter drive assembly replacement, all ring gear teeth should be inspected. If three or more consecutive teeth are damaged, the flex-plate should be replaced with flex-plate No. 10128414.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove starter braces or heat shields, if equipped.
3. Disconnect starter solenoid electrical connectors.
4. Raise and support vehicle.
5. Remove attaching bolts, nuts and washers from starter motor.
6. Remove starter motor from engine.
7. Reverse procedure to install.

I was able to get it out. I had to use a really short socket (15mm) and use a couple extensions on it to get it to loosen up. Thanks for getting back with me.
